Questions covered in this guide
Look at a complete corner sample
Ask to see the proposed frame profile, interior face, exterior finish and a working lock. Compare what is visible from inside the room with your existing opening. Bring the final product sheet rather than relying only on a small color chip. The everyday appearance includes the frame proportions and hardware as well as the finish color.
Ask what care still remains
Pella offers vinyl windows. Its material guide describes vinyl as requiring relatively little maintenance. Low-maintenance is not a substitute for the exact care instructions. Ask how the selected finish should be cleaned and whether refinishing is permitted. Have the seller identify the approved color options for that product and any restrictions that affect a future change. Record the answer without assuming every vinyl window follows one paint rule.
Separate appearance from performance
Build a comparison with rows for frame profile, visible glass, glass package, lock, screen and maintenance directions. Ask each bidder to identify the exact rated configuration. If one sample has a different glass package or grille, mark that difference before deciding that a frame material explains a performance change. Request a drawing of the proposed opening when the new frame proportions concern you. Compare the interior color against nearby painted trim and the exterior against siding in the conditions where you will see them.
Confirm the order and budget
Put the selected interior and exterior finishes on the order confirmation and request a process for approving substitutions. Include any work needed to finish around the new frame. Use the calculator’s vinyl reference only for the supported window configuration, or enter the supplied unit range. Keep a product-specific question unanswered until the supplier resolves it rather than replacing it with a broad claim about all vinyl windows.
