Questions covered in this guide
Collect the documents before comparing promises
Ask each bidder for the warranty document that applies to the proposed product and a separate description of the installation coverage. Record the issuer, document date, product series and proposal number together. A salesperson's summary can help you find a clause, but keep the actual document with your comparison so you can revisit the terms before ordering.
Keep the two responsibilities visible
Andersen publishes warranty documents by product line. Its separate certified-installation warranty applies to qualifying Andersen installations and excludes other surrounding work. That is an example of why product and installation promises need separate review; it is not a statement that every installer or window purchase carries the same coverage. Ask the bidder to show which documents apply to your specific order.
Use a service scenario to uncover gaps
For each proposal, write a hypothetical question: if this opening develops a problem, who receives the first call and who decides the cause? Add rows for a replacement part, labor to fit it, access equipment, removal and disposal, and disturbed trim or paint. Mark each row covered, excluded or unanswered only after the bidder identifies the supporting term. Ask about time limits, claim steps, maintenance obligations and any transfer conditions. Do not assume that a long headline term answers every row or that a replacement part includes the work around it.
Keep the answer with your project budget
Have the seller resolve unanswered rows in writing and identify the contact responsible for service. Record any separately priced service plan without treating it as equivalent to the product warranty. After installation, retain the invoice, product identifiers and final scope beside these documents. Our window calculator helps compare the initial replacement budget; it does not value future warranty claims or predict whether a particular defect will be covered. Use the document comparison to understand the purchase before choosing between otherwise similar quotes.
Putting it into practice
A hypothetical future service request tests each proposal across parts, fitting labor, access and finishing. The worksheet requires document-backed answers and keeps a named service contact, avoiding an unsupported ranking by headline warranty length.
