Questions covered in this guide
Separate the appearance from construction
A slim dark frame may be the look you want, but begin the comparison by asking what forms its interior, exterior and structural sections. Request a labeled cross-section or corner sample for the actual product series. Keep appearance, materials and tested performance in separate rows so one attractive photograph does not stand in for all three.
Use the product as the reference
Marvin Modern uses proprietary high-density fiberglass. Its collection also includes extruded-aluminum elements. This is a manufacturer-specific example of a mixed construction, not a statement that all aluminum-looking windows use the same design. Ask each bidder to identify the materials in their proposed assembly and the product sheet supporting that answer. Avoid inferring a whole-window energy rating from one exposed material.
Compare what the configuration changes
Make columns for visible frame width, finish, glass package, rated performance, joining details and care directions. Ask whether the sample and quoted size use the same configuration. If a thinner-looking option changes the required support or installation detail, have the installer explain and price that work. Include the interior appearance in the comparison, particularly where the new frame meets existing trim. Record any difference in operating hardware and screen placement rather than treating the frames as otherwise identical.
Choose from a complete proposal
Ask for the final model and configuration to be written into the order, with a process for reviewing substitutions. Use the installed quote to compare this design with a more familiar frame option. The calculator’s material examples do not assign prices to every mixed-material construction. Keep a custom assembly on a separate project worksheet until you have a supplied range for the actual product and surrounding work.
