Questions covered in this guide
Separate the surfaces in the order
List the frame interior, frame exterior, hardware, grille and surrounding trim as separate items. Write the desired color or finish next to each. Ask which choices are linked and which can be selected independently on the proposed product. A single color name on a quote may not describe all the surfaces that will remain visible.
Review the actual available choices
Pella’s material guide presents different finish options. Its wood offerings include interior finish choices. Request the current finish list for the exact series rather than assuming a color shown on another model is available. Ask for physical samples where appearance is important and compare them with the adjacent finishes. Keep a digital rendering as a planning aid, not the sole record of the approved color.
Build a finish approval sheet
For every opening or matching group, record product series, finish code, sample identifier and approval date. Include the exterior trim or cladding repair that the installation will leave around it. Ask how the supplier handles variation, touch-up and replacement parts, and request the applicable product information. If two brands are being combined, review their samples together rather than relying on identical-sounding color names. Have any proposed substitution returned for approval before the order changes.
Connect appearance to the installed price
Request a complete price for the selected finish package and identify any owner painting or separate trim work. Keep those amounts distinct so they are not omitted or counted twice in the budget. Save the final schedule with the order confirmation and compare delivered identifiers against it. The calculator does not predict a finish match or assign universal color-upgrade prices; use the supplied configuration price when a special finish is selected.
