Questions covered in this guide
Describe the existing exterior
Ask the bidder to identify the wall and opening construction rather than assuming that visible brick tells the whole story. Record the trim, sill and surrounding condition in photographs. State whether your goal is to retain the existing exterior appearance or allow changes. This helps separate a window order from the work needed to fit it into the opening.
Request the applicable project detail
Pella lists brick replacement applications separately. It also distinguishes concrete or masonry installation applications. Have the installer identify the relevant method for the selected product and actual construction. Ask which existing components remain and how they will be inspected. A detail used successfully on another brick house is an example, not confirmation that the same approach fits yours.
Compare the surrounding work
Create rows for removal, opening preparation, any buck or support detail, water-management connection, trim and masonry repairs. Identify the responsible trade for each row and whether its price is included. Ask how disturbed finishes will be matched and what happens if removal exposes a condition that was not visible during quoting. Keep the process for extra work in writing. If changing the window size is proposed, have the appropriate professional evaluate the structural and exterior implications before treating it as a standard substitution.
Approve a complete installed scope
Compare totals only after the bidders describe the same retained and replaced components. Keep photos, the agreed detail and finish expectations beside the product order. Use a supplied price for complex opening work instead of assuming it is contained in a general window range. The calculator can organize the replacement budget; it cannot identify hidden construction or establish that a brick exterior can remain untouched.
