Questions covered in this guide
Record what must match
Photograph the unusual opening and note which visual features you want to preserve: the curve, grille alignment, trim or relationship to adjacent windows. Identify whether the old product is fixed or operates. Give the supplier those priorities before asking for a price so a simpler-looking replacement is not assumed to be an acceptable substitute.
Ask for the exact shape documentation
Pella offers round and other special-shape windows. Its custom guidance includes multiple shape and size choices. Have the supplier explain how your opening will be measured and which drawing, template or other record authorizes manufacture. Identify the person responsible for the final measurements. Do not trace or alter a shape yourself unless the supplier has specifically arranged a safe, appropriate procedure and accepted responsibility for the resulting order.
Review the drawing from both sides
Create a checklist for overall shape, dimensions, interior and exterior appearance, grille pattern, glass package and operating function. Ask how curved trim or surrounding finishes will be retained or remade. Confirm any safety-glazing or emergency-opening questions with the responsible professional. Compare an exact-match proposal with an alternative only after the differences are clearly marked. Request clarification when the order drawing uses terms or dimensions that do not match the homeowner-facing sketch.
Keep custom work visible in the budget
Ask for the complete installed price, the process for correcting an order error and the planned review point before manufacturing. Save the approved drawing and version date with the proposal. Use that supplied price on your project worksheet. The calculator’s standard style references do not price every arch, circle or custom combination, and an approximate area alone should not be used to invent a custom-window multiplier.
