Questions covered in this guide
Write down what each opening does
Before changing a wall of windows, mark the units you currently open and the ones you only look through. Note which rooms depend on a particular opening for an everyday task. Add any required emergency-opening question for the installer. Keep those uses on the plan when comparing a larger uninterrupted view with several smaller units.
Identify the fixed sections
Pella picture windows are fixed. They can be combined with operable windows. Ask the seller to shade the fixed and opening portions of the proposed drawing differently. Request the exact operating products that flank or sit above the picture unit. A rendering can show an attractive composition without making the operation clear, so resolve that point before comparing product totals.
Compare the wall as a whole
Use a worksheet with rows for view, opening access, screen placement, cleaning, privacy treatments and applicable escape or ventilation requirements. Have each bidder explain how the same needs are met in their arrangement. Ask whether changing the combined opening requires additional support, joining details or surrounding finish work. Keep those items visible rather than assuming they are covered by a price per component window. If the layout removes an opening you use, decide how that task will be handled afterward.
Count the quoted units consistently
Ask whether the proposal lists one factory combination or several windows joined at the site, and record the exact quantity basis. Compare complete installed arrangements with matching glass specifications. Use the calculator only for a configuration it supports or enter a sourced price on your project worksheet. Do not multiply an ordinary picture-window allowance into an undocumented structural alteration or a custom wall assembly.
