Questions covered in this guide
Identify the surfaces you will own
Have the seller label the interior wood, exterior covering, hardware, seals and trim on a sample. Record the material and factory finish of each part. Clad-wood is a useful starting description, but it does not explain how every exposed edge or surrounding piece will be finished at your opening.
Read care by surface
Pella describes wood windows with exterior cladding. Its guide identifies wood interior finish choices. Ask for the selected product’s care document and use it to separate interior finishing from exterior cleaning and inspection. Have the installer identify surfaces that need additional work after installation. Do not transfer a cleaning product or coating instruction from one surface to another merely because both belong to the same window.
Compare the ownership tasks
Make a table with surface, initial finish, routine care, restricted products and service contact. Ask how the exterior cladding ends at trim or joined units, and who will inspect any location that is difficult to reach. If interior wood is supplied unfinished, record the preparation and coating responsibility as part of the purchase. Compare that completed scope with a factory-finished alternative. Keep the requested look separate from claims about how long a material might last in unspecified conditions.
Keep the maintenance plan with the price
Ask for any product-specific care obligations referenced by the warranty and save them with the invoice. Include only actual quoted finishing or access costs in your project budget. At completion, confirm that the finishes match the selected samples and collect the final product identifiers. The calculator’s wood-frame reference does not establish the price of every cladding, finish or installation detail, so use a supplied range when the specification goes beyond its supported example.
